Students from Oruba Boys in Suna West Sub-County in Migori held demonstrations on Wednesday to protest their 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results. The students termed the results "ingenuine" and "shocking", chanting slogans while carrying placards to the Migori County Director of Education Office. According to student Onyango Obiero Omondi, they pleaded with the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to show them the actual result slips to give them hope. "We are shocked to see our peers celebrating while we march to seek grievances," noted Obiero. The students claimed they had never scored such poor results in their four years at the school. Out of 75 students, only two managed a C minus. The rest scored Ds and Es - 13 with D plus, 23 plain Ds, 31 D minuses, and 6 Es. Attempts to reach school administrators and exam officials were unsuccessful. Hopes to address concerns with the County Director of Education were also unfruitful as officials were unavailable. Migori County Director of Education Jacob Onyiego urged raising complaints to KNEC within 30 days of result release. KNEC allows this window to query any examination issues. Meanwhile, 601,788 students nationwide scored below C minus in the 2023 KCSE results.
